Hi all!
Thought this might be a useful thread for those who are interested in building a Clone Wars style droid.

In this thread we're going to be pointing out the differences between the CW and the classic droids.
Feel free to post some differences you've noticed as well.

I'm going to talk about the dome first.
The first thing you might notice is that the radar eye is different!
The Clone Wars radar eye:

The classic droid's radar eye:

You'll notice that it has less details on it and it also has a longer width than the classic droid's radar eye.
Not sure if you can tell in this picture, but the lense sticks out further in the radar eye than the classic droid's.

Another thing you may notice is that the panels are different than the regular droid's.
The panels stick out some while the regular droid's does not.
The classic R2 unit has about 19 total panels. The Clone Wars droid has about 13 total panels. This does not include the top round panel or the front logics.
For the classic droid that's 6 pie panels, 13 side panels which include 1 psi panel in the front of the dome, 1 psi panel in the back, 1 large logic panel, and 10 other panels.

For the Clone Wars droid that's 6 pie panels, 7 side panels which include 1 psi panel in the front of the dome, 1 small psi panel in the back, 1 large logic panel, and 4 other panels.

Here are some pictures to demonstrate the difference between the 2 types of droid's domes.

The Clone Wars droid front logic:

The Clone Wars droid's psi panel:
The psi panel is alot longer than the regular droid's.

The classic droid's psi panel:
And there are 2 panels under the radar eye, while the CW droid has just 1.

The Clone Wars droid large rear logic and panel:
The CW droid's rear logic is longer than the regular droid's, and the panel that it's on is also abit more larger.

The Clone War's droid rear psi:
The Cw droid's rear psi panel is much smaller than the regular droid's.

The Clone Wars droid top round panel:
As you can see in the pic it is plain with no details on it and it looks like it touches the pie panels.

The classic droid top round panel:
There's alot more space between the round panel and the pie panels, then there are on the CW droid.

The last thing I noticed was that the holos were smaller on the Clone Wars droids than on the regular droids.
The Clone Wars droid holos:
The lines on the holos are more close together as well.

The classic droid's holos:
The regular droid's holos are alittle more larger.

For now, these are all the differences that I notice on the dome. If you notice any other differences on the dome, feel free to contribute.

Ok, now that I'm finished talking about the dome, let's talk about the differences between the Clone Wars body and the regular droid's body.

Just like the CW dome, the panels on the body are also different.
And just like the CW dome, the panels are raised instead of flat, and there are less panels on the CW body than there are on a regular droid's body.
There are about 11 panels on the Clone Wars body. There are 30 panels on the regular droid's body.
Not including the power cupler, coin slots, coin returns, and vents.
As you can see in these reference pictures, the panels are indeed different.

The clone Wars droid's front panels:

The regular droids front panels:

The Clone Wars droid's back panels:
I took a pic of my unfinished CW droid because I couldn't find any pictures of the back of the body. You can see in this pic I haven't finished the power cupler yet or the back vents.

The Clone Wars droid side panels:
The CW droid has only one panel on the side of it's body, while the reg. droid has a panel at the bottom and a vent on the side of it's body.

The regular droid's side panels:

Pretty different, huh?  Smile If there's one thing I liked about building a Clone Wars droid, it was the simplicity of the body and how little amount of panels I had to cut out verses a regular droid that has a ton of panels.

Here are some more things I noticed that was different about the body:

The Clone Wars "arms":

The Clone Wars power cupler:
There's actually a light in the middle of the CW power cupler, while there is none in the regular power cupler. (well in Goldie's there is)

The regular droid's power cupler:

The Clone Wars data port:

Wow! There were more differences than I thought there was originally! This would of came in handy for me when I first started Goldie, there would of been alot less screw ups. heheh
This is just the body alone, I will talk about the legs, ankles, feet, etc... another day. And will eventually in another thread, show you how I made my CW droid.

Hope this helps everyone see all the differences of the Clone Wars droid before they get started building a screen accurate CW droid.
